Devils Tower National Monument, Wyoming

This beautiful tower in northwestern Wyoming is an igneous intrusion which was left standing after softer sedimentary rock surrounding it was eroded away. It was also the setting for the popular film "Closer Encounters of the Third Kind" several decades ago.
