Racetrack

Death Valley National Park, California
This 30 lb stone appears to have moved by itself across a dry lake bed called "The Racetrack" in Death Valley. Many other rocks in the area also had tracks behind them, often going in circles and irregularly changing direction. Some once believed these rocks moved by supernatural forces, but the prevailing theory is that the pressure of high winds, after rain slickens the mud caked ground, can slowly move these rocks which have fallen from a nearby cliff.
