Trona, California

The sky lights up during sunset over Trona Towers. This region near the edge of the Mojave Desert is known for multiple unusual rock towers in an otherwise flat flatscape. They are thought to be formed from calcium carbonate deposits from spring water upwelling into a now dry lakebed, a formation known as fufa. Smaller and better known tufa towers can be seen on the shores of Mono Lake further north.
